For six critically acclaimed seasons, Dr. Hartley and friends engaged in hilarious discussions of private neuroses, from fear of flying to fear of humidity. The four episodes in this set celebrate the range of the show’s humor and the extraordinary writing that made The Bob Newhart Show one of America’s most loved and most watched series of all time. So pull up a couch and join Bob and friends as they take on their own mental health, each other, and their beloved psychiatrist, Dr. Bob Hartley.
Amazon.com Life got you down? Don't worry--the cure is a remote control away. Get ready to say "Hi Bob." The Very Best of the Bob Newhart Show: The Doctor Is In features four of Bob's classic group-therapy sessions with the lovable cast of neurotics that always seems able to turn the tables (or should we say couch?) on the good doctor. In "Mutiny on the Hartley," the group attempts to go it alone without their fearless leader when Bob attempts to assert himself and raise his rates. In "The Battle of the Groups," the setting isn't the only thing that shifts. When Bob brings Emily along with his group to the great outdoors for a weekend-long session, it's the Hartley's relationship that gets put under the microscope. "Death of a Fruitman" has the ever-caustic Mr. Gianelli meet his maker, leaving the group to wallow in their guilt about kicking him out of the group. Even from beyond the grave, Gianelli finds time for a few final words of love for twerpy Mr. Peterson. Closing out the collection, Mr. Plager (WKRP's Howard Hesseman) stages a play in "Group on a Hot Tin Roof." The group takes some exception to the blatant use of their personalities as characters. If Bob can't help, maybe a little heady fame can. --Bob Michaels
